Lachen is a town in “North Sikkim district” in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is situated at an altitude of 2,750 m. The meaning of word Lachen is “big pass”. The municipality is being promote as a tourists destination by the Sikkim’s government. The town form the base to the Gurudongmar Lake and Chopta Valley. Lachen Monastery in Lachen

The lake is named after “Guru Padmasambhava” which is also called as Guru Rinpoche, founder of Tibetan Buddhism who visit the lake in the 8th century.
